The deputy head of Russia’s Security Council issued a stern warning on Sunday, stating that any attempt to “block” Russia’s new Rassvet satellite network at Ukraine’s request would be considered an act of destruction, potentially leading to “full-scale space warfare.”

Dmitry Medvedev emphasized on Telegram that space is already congested, highlighting the need for mutual courtesy among nations. He remarked, “I hope the Americans understand this. After all, their low-orbit Starlink satellites would come tumbling down like ornaments from a dried-up Christmas tree,” referring to potential consequences for U.S. satellite systems.

This warning follows comments made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who, in an interview with The Financial Times, disclosed that he had asked U.S. President Donald Trump to impose sanctions on Russian and Chinese companies involved in developing a competitor to the Starlink satellite network. Zelenskyy claimed that China is assisting Russia with this technology, which he indicated could be operational by late this year or early next year.

Zelenskyy expressed concern that if fully developed, Rassvet could enhance the precision of Russian airstrikes, particularly with Moscow ramping up its aerial offensive against Ukraine, now in its fifth year.
