Authorities discovered debris from the aircraft that went missing while traveling to Boston on October 3. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) informed the U.S. Coast Guard around 2 a.m. local time that the Gulfstream G100 jet had lost contact with air traffic control.

After finding the debris field, Coast Guard officials confirmed they are conducting ongoing search efforts off the coast of Nantucket for the six individuals on board. Rescue teams are utilizing the Coast Guard cutter William Sparling for continuous search operations throughout the night.

The plane took off from L.F. Wade International Airport in Bermuda and was destined for Boston Logan International Airport. The FAA had issued a Search and Rescue Alert Notice for the aircraft, which is owned by Latitude Air Ambulances, responsible for international medical flights.

The personnel on board included two pilots and two medical staff from Canada, who had flown to Bermuda to retrieve a patient and their relative. The pilot reportedly declared an emergency prior to losing contact.

The aircraft experienced a rapid descent from approximately 24,000 feet to 11,000 feet before disappearing. In about 27 hours, the Coast Guard has covered approximately 1,644 square miles in their search efforts.

Assisting agencies include the Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, the New York Air National Guard’s 106th Rescue Wing, and the Coast Guard Cutter William Sparling.
