Two people lost their lives in a tragic collision in Encino when their white Honda Civic struck a tree early Friday morning. The accident occurred around 2 a.m. near the intersection of Balboa and Burbank boulevards, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Paramedics pronounced both individuals dead at the scene, but their identities have not been disclosed yet. Witness Victor Cruz reported seeing the car racing around a curve at approximately 60 miles per hour before veering off the road and crashing into the tree. He attempted to assist the occupants and noted that the impact caused the engine to shift into the passenger seat.
Footage from the scene revealed the vehicle nearly split in half, with sections on either side of the tree. Authorities are still investigating the incident and have yet to determine the cause of death.
