President Donald Trump has nominated Lt. Gen. David Miller Jr. to lead U.S. Space Command (USSPACECOM), with the nomination sent to the Senate on September 29. If confirmed, Miller will take over from Gen. Stephen Whiting, who has been in the role since January 2024.
Currently, Miller serves as the deputy chief of space operations for strategy, plans, programs, and requirements for the U.S. Space Force. His past positions include commander of Space Operations Command at Peterson Space Force Base, special assistant to the vice chief of space operations, and director of operations, training, and force development at USSPACECOM.
Gen. Douglas Schiess, Chief Space Officer of the Space Force, praised Miller on X (formerly Twitter), calling him an “exceptional Guardian” and recognizing his distinguished service.
