The Orlando Science Center has achieved accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) following a rigorous review of its animal care and operations. This process involved a detailed application, a multi-day on-site inspection, and evaluations of various aspects, such as animal wellbeing, veterinary care, staff training, educational programs, conservation efforts, and financial viability.
The AZA recognized the science center for meeting its high standards for animal management, with accreditation awarded to only 30 institutions during its annual conference. JoAnn Newman, the president and CEO, emphasized the center’s commitment to conservation education, positioning their animals as ambassadors for their mission.
Notably, the Orlando Science Center is one of just 15 institutions in the country that also holds accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums. AZA accreditation must be renewed every five years and is regarded as one of the highest distinctions for facilities that house and care for animals.
