Ohio Secretary of State Launches Online Resources for Students
COLUMBUS — Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose has introduced new online resources aimed at educating Ohio students about elections, civic engagement, entrepreneurship, and the significance of active citizenship.
These student-centered resources compile interactive activities, educational tools, and programs from the Secretary of State’s office and partner organizations in one easily accessible platform.
“We want young Ohioans to understand that they don’t have to wait until adulthood to start thinking about how they can make a difference,” Secretary LaRose emphasized. “These resources offer the next generation the tools and inspiration they need to get started.”
Key Features Include:
-
Start Up Squad: This initiative encourages young Ohioans to explore entrepreneurship and develop their business ideas, allowing them to create a personalized, printable business certificate. Resources from Junior Achievement are also available.
-
Future Voter ICivics Games: Interactive civics games teach students about elections, government, and the importance of civic participation.
-
Become a Civics Superstar: Students can assess their knowledge of U.S. civics through an online quiz modeled after the official USCIS Citizenship Test.
-
Resources for Teachers: Educators can find materials to teach students about voter registration and elections, alongside opportunities for students to serve as Election Day poll workers. The Secretary of State’s “Grads Vote” initiative distributes over 150,000 voter information packets to graduating seniors annually.
-
Ohio Activity Book for Kids: Designed for younger Ohioans, this book includes puzzles, games, coloring pages, and activities for an engaging way to learn about the state.
-
Printable Education and Recognition Materials: Various resources are available for printing, including customizable certificates to celebrate student achievements.
These new resources expand on the Secretary of State’s efforts to enhance the accessibility of election and business information, particularly for young citizens. LaRose noted, “For many kids, the political process may seem mean, confusing, or sometimes downright scary. This website will be a great space filled with positive content about getting engaged in their community by participating in democracy and starting a business.”
