Gundam Rogue Orbit and the HG 1/144 Bau Bahlam Model Kit
When it comes to mecha action games, it’s hard not to be intrigued, especially with the upcoming Gundam Rogue Orbit, scheduled to release in spring 2027. Announced back in June, the game has piqued my curiosity, albeit with some skepticism—mostly due to the introduction of giant monsters. Traditionally, Gundam narratives delve deeper into the psychological trauma of child pilots rather than epic battles against extraterrestrial creatures.
However, my apprehension began to wane with the reveal of the HG 1/144 Bau Bahlam model kit at the 2026 All Japan Model & Hobby Show. This kit is based on a mobile suit that will appear in Rogue Orbit and promises to captivate even the fiercest of traditionalists.
Key Features of the Bau Bahlam:
-
Mono-Eye Design:
- The Bau Bahlam showcases a classic mono-eye design reminiscent of the Gouf, a staple mobile suit known for its close-quarters combat.
-
Chainsaw Macuahuitl:
- This model sports a chainsaw macuahuitl, inspired by the traditional Mesoamerican weapon. It creatively integrates a chainsaw into its design, allowing for dynamic poses as if revving the weapon’s motor.
-
Spiked Knuckle Plates:
- To add to its imposing presence, the Bau Bahlam comes equipped with spiked knuckle plates, ensuring that its punches are as impactful as they are menacing.
-
Customization Potential:
- The trailer hinted at extensive mecha customization options, giving players the opportunity to utilize various components from the Bau Bahlam on their own mobile suits.
The model kit is not just a compelling addition for collectors but also emphasizes the game’s commitment to innovative mecha designs and customization possibilities.
Final Thoughts
While I may reserve my critiques regarding Rogue Orbit’s direction, there’s no denying that visually striking designs like the Bau Bahlam serve to soften my traditionalist views. After all, a game that introduces a giant Mesoamerican chainsaw must have some merit.
Gundam Rogue Orbit is set to launch on Steam on March 4, 2027. The Bau Bahlam model kit is anticipated to follow suit later in the year.
