Grace Potter Teams Up with ISS Astronaut for Latest Single Release

Grace Potter has launched a new single titled “Spacewalking Woman,” honoring her long-time friend, NASA astronaut Jessica Meir. The song celebrates the blend of science, creativity, and exploration shared by the two.

This track is notably the product of a long-distance collaboration, with Potter writing from Earth while Meir contributed insights from the International Space Station (ISS). The duo originally met in 2015 when NASA invited Potter and her band to the Johnson Space Center to film a music video. Their friendship has flourished ever since, particularly highlighted when Potter attended Meir’s first launch in 2019.

Inspiration for “Spacewalking Woman” was drawn from Meir’s tenure as commander of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-12 mission. After witnessing Meir’s spacewalk, Potter became intrigued by the specialized terminology used in space, leading to a creative exchange that evolved into the song. She expressed awe at the astronaut’s work, noting how this experience motivated her to craft a “hype song” for her friend.

Potter elaborated on her process, sharing that what began as a personal tribute gained traction and excitement among her band and Meir’s team. The collaboration allowed them to create and experiment together, highlighting the joy of supporting Meir and her fellow astronauts.

“Spacewalking Woman” follows Potter’s seventh studio album, Trespasser, released in August. Potter is set to open for Zac Brown Band on August 8 at Knoxville, TN’s Thompson-Boling Arena.
