Revised Salary Cap Space for Dallas Cowboys Following Joey Porter Jr. Trade with Steelers

The Dallas Cowboys recently finalized a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers to acquire cornerback Joey Porter Jr. While this move adds $4.92 million to their cap for 2026, the Cowboys maintain a healthy overall cap space of around $16 million. This allows them flexibility for additional player signings.

Porter is set to play out the current season without a contract extension, with plans to make decisions regarding his future in 2027, when he will be a free agent. Reports suggest that he is comfortable with this arrangement, as he had expressed a strong desire to join the Cowboys.

Going into the next season, the Cowboys face a projected cap situation of being slightly over the threshold at $1.9 million. However, they can potentially open up to $71 million in cap space through strategic moves, such as contract extensions and restructuring. This could leave room for not only extending Porter but also teammate George Pickens.

In summary, while the Cowboys must navigate a tight financial landscape, they have options available to ensure they can retain key players moving forward.
