New Hyundai Tucson Introduces Pleos Connect and Aims for 42 MPG Efficiency

Hyundai has unveiled the new Tucson, its best-selling SUV globally, at a New York event. The refreshed model boasts a larger body, updated hybrid systems, and an Android Automotive-based infotainment system. Sales are set to start in Korea in late 2026 and expand to North America and Europe in 2027.

The Tucson’s long-wheelbase version is now 4,700mm long and 40mm wider. In the U.S., the two-wheel-drive hybrid aims for up to 42 mpg with a 0-60 mph time of 8.5 seconds. There’s also a plug-in hybrid variant expected to deliver 292 PS and an electric range of 81km.

José Muñoz, Hyundai’s CEO, highlighted the Tucson’s combination of bold design, spacious interiors, and hybrid efficiency, setting new standards in its segment. The U.S. accounts for about 20% of Tucson’s over 11.1 million sales, with hybrids representing 31% of U.S. sales in 2025.

The new model can tow 3,000 lbs, an increase of 1,000 lbs compared to previous versions. Additionally, features like Pleos Connect with Gleo AI and an off-road variant with Smart Terrain Assist are noteworthy.
