Kent Mayor Optimistic About Governor’s Space Council

Mayor Dana Ralph sees her appointment to the new Governor’s Space Council as a significant opportunity for Kent, a key player in aerospace manufacturing. Announced by Gov. Bob Ferguson on September 28, the 23-member council aims to bolster Washington’s competitiveness in the space economy.

Ralph emphasized the importance of the aerospace sector, which employs nearly 9,700 people in Kent alone and generates $6.2 billion in direct economic output. Kent Valley as a whole boasts over 34,000 aerospace workers and nearly $30 billion in economic activity, exceeding that of major aerospace hubs like Colorado.

The mayor underscored the need for continued growth and innovation, advocating for infrastructure and workforce development to support existing businesses and attract new ones. She highlighted Kent’s aerospace legacy, recalling Boeing’s contributions to the Lunar Rover Vehicles over 50 years ago.

Ralph believes that while the region has a rich history, it must actively compete for the future. She is committed to collaborating with council members to address workforce needs and infrastructure challenges, aiming to ensure that Washington remains a top choice for aerospace and advanced manufacturing companies.
