Hoops Pet Food Pantry Introduces Online Wish List to Meet Rising Demand

Hoops Pet Food Pantry Launches Online Wishlist to Assist Local Pets

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich. – In response to rising demand for pet food assistance, Hoops Pet Food Pantry has introduced an online wishlist, making it easier for residents of Northern Michigan to help keep pets fed and with their families.

As many struggle with high gas prices, grocery costs, and inflation, the pantry has seen an increased need, not only for human food but for pet supplies as well. Founded in Traverse City, Hoops Pet Food Pantry has provided free pet food for six years and recently reported feeding over 900 pets in September alone—more than the total they served in their first year.

Robin Rosier, the founder, emphasizes that the pantry’s support is community-driven, noting, “People just need to ask for what they need.” With loyal supporters and local pet stores contributing, the pantry also relies on everyday neighbors to donate food.

The newly launched online wishlist simplifies the donation process, allowing individuals to purchase food items through their website, which are then picked up from local vendors. Rosier believes that if just a fraction of the estimated 23,600 households with pets in the county donate even one extra bag of food each year, it would significantly support the pantry.

“It’s as easy as clicking a mouse,” Robin said, optimistic that community members will engage with this new system. This online initiative not only benefits the pets in need but also local businesses, as it fosters collaboration in the community. Additionally, Rosier points out that it is more cost-effective to keep pets at home than to house them in shelters, attracting early support from local animal control and humane society groups.

With this effort, Hoops Pet Food Pantry aims to ensure no pet has to go hungry, continuing its mission of keeping animals with their families.
