Cultural Expo! at Eastern Michigan University
When: Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026
Where: Eastern Michigan University
The International Student Association (ISA) is excited to announce the return of Cultural Expo!, a vibrant event that celebrates diversity and educates the EMU community about different cultures around the world.
Inspiration Behind the Event
Sultan Al Sousi, president of ISA and the force behind Cultural Expo!, shared his vision:
“Cultural Expo! was inspired by the Multicultural Fair I attended at Schoolcraft Community College. I wanted to recreate a similar spirit at Eastern, adding my own unique touches.”
He recognized the diverse cultural tapestry at EMU and felt that it deserved to be showcased. Al Sousi remarked on the beauty of the variety of ethnic roots among students:
“It’s amazing to see how many cultures are represented on campus.”
What to Expect
Cultural Expo! will feature an array of activities including:
-
Cultural Tables: Attendees can explore artifacts, clothing, and jewelry representing various cultures, guided by students from those cultures.
“It’s an opportunity to ask questions and truly learn about different heritages,” Al Sousi explained.
-
Workshops: Participants can join in hands-on activities, such as origami demonstrations by the Japanese Student Association and traditional games led by the Korean Student Association.
-
Performances: Students are invited to showcase cultural dances and performances, allowing everyone to experience the richness of different traditions.
The Impact
This event provides a unique opportunity for students to engage directly with diverse cultures, fostering connections and learning in a way that books or online resources cannot replicate.
“You can see and appreciate the beauty in our differences,” Al Sousi stated.
A Growing Cultural Experience
Compared to last year, this year’s Cultural Expo! will feature an even broader array of cultures.
“Come prepared to be surprised! Our cultural differences may be significant, but they also allow us to coexist beautifully,” Al Sousi encouraged.
Join us at Cultural Expo! to celebrate unity in diversity at EMU!
