Upworthy to Launch Entertainment Division Directed by Sarah Yourgrau

Upworthy, a prominent player in the social media landscape of the 2010s known for its uplifting content, is making a Hollywood comeback with the launch of Upworthy Studios. This new initiative aims to expand beyond digital publishing by exploring various entertainment formats while maintaining its commitment to positive storytelling.

The studio will be spearheaded by Sarah Yourgrau, a two-time Emmy winner and founder of Common Ground Studios. Yourgrau intends to develop original content by engaging with Upworthy’s existing community, fostering a collaborative approach to content creation.

Amanda Farrand, recently appointed as CEO of Upworthy, sees the studio as a way to merge the brand’s strong relationship with its audience into the entertainment realm. She emphasizes the importance of community in building successful media projects and cites Upworthy’s history of audience engagement, including transforming Instagram interactions into a bestselling book.

Yourgrau echoes this sentiment, highlighting the rare opportunity to rethink the traditional studio model by prioritizing audience involvement from the outset. With a strong base of 17 million engaged followers, Upworthy Studios aims to create ambitious entertainment together with its community.
