Sister Cities Festival Celebrates Culture and Community

The recent second annual Mexican Independence Day Fundraiser in Riverbank showcased vibrant performances by Ballet Folklorico dancers, celebrating Mexican culture. Hosted at the Antigua Event Center, the event highlighted Riverbank’s connection to its Sister City, Tamazula de Gordiano in Jalisco, Mexico. The Sister Cities Program, initiated by President Eisenhower in 1956, aims to foster global partnerships and cultural appreciation; Riverbank is actively involved in this initiative.

Local attendees included State Senate District 4 candidate Jaron Brandon, who admired the dancers and the program’s impact. The evening featured colorful dances, authentic Mexican cuisine, and a special guest, Mtra. Ma. de Jesus Ochoa Ortiz from Tamazula. She was presented with a framed photo of the dancers as a token of appreciation, reinforcing the commitment to their ongoing connection.
