Gulfport’s Unique Approach to Weather Woes
Gulfport, Mississippi – This weekend marks the 17th annual View the Cruise event, but with less-than-promising weather forecasts, Gulfport Mainstreet and local business owners are brainstorming creative solutions to keep the rain at bay.
In a quirky twist, they’ve decided to try an old wives’ tale: burying a hot dog to ward off bad weather. “We’ve put a lot of hard work into this weekend, and we will do just about anything to keep the rain away. So, if it’s burying a hot dog, that’s what it is,” said Lisa Ashley, owner of Mainstreet Downtown Nutrition.
Despite the weather concerns, Kristen Garriga, the executive director of Gulfport Mainstreet, reassured attendees: “Rain or shine, downtown Gulfport is open, and View the Cruise is happening. We may adjust our Saturday concert, but all businesses are prepared for Sunday.”
Those involved have expressed hopes that burying the hot dog could become an annual tradition. The community’s spirit remains high, committed to making the event a success regardless of the weather.
