Alabama Named Among Top 10 States for Business
MONTGOMERY – Governor Kay Ivey announced that Alabama has been recognized as one of the top 10 states for business competitiveness by Area Development magazine, marking another year of high rankings in their annual analysis.
In the recently released 2026 Top States for Doing Business report, Alabama improved from No. 8 in 2025 to No. 7 overall. The state achieved top rankings in three critical categories and was among the top 10 in various others.
“Alabama is, indeed, open for business!” exclaimed Governor Ivey. She emphasized that the ranking reflects the state’s favorable environment for companies, highlighting policies, infrastructure, skilled labor, and available space for growth.

Alabama’s ascent in the rankings follows a record-breaking year in 2025, with Governor Ivey announcing $14.6 billion in new investments and over 9,000 new jobs created.
Secretary Ellen McNair of the Alabama Department of Commerce remarked that Alabama’s consistent recognition is validation of the state’s efforts to enhance its investment climate. The state has made significant investments, approximately $300 million, in site development to ensure readiness for companies seeking to invest.
Alabama’s focus on workforce development is also crucial, with Secretary McNair noting that it is not just about favorable tax conditions but also about providing a skilled workforce that meets employers’ needs.
