‘A knife pressed against my neck’: Business owner shares her experience of fending off an armed attacker

A woman, Jennifer Owens, successfully fought off an armed robbery attempt at her store, Upcycle Treasure Box, in St. Louis. The assailant, identified as Kevin David Poirrier, approached her from behind, brandishing a knife. Owens, having earlier helped Poirrier’s wife, acted swiftly to defend herself by using a luggage cart as a barrier. Despite sustaining a minor cut on her finger, she managed to prevent the man from stealing her fanny pack. Poirrier has been charged with armed robbery and remains in custody. Owens has returned to her store but is now more cautious and plans to keep the luggage cart as a symbol of her resilience.
