Tiny Tassel Celebrates 11 Years with a Community-Focused Anniversary
CHARLESTON, S.C. — A downtown Charleston boutique, The Tiny Tassel, is celebrating its 11th anniversary, affectionately dubbed its “Tasselversary,” by giving back to the community. Located at the corner of Spring and St. Philip streets, the boutique is hosting a special sale with proceeds benefiting a nonprofit that organizes birthday celebrations for unhoused children.
Business Background
Owner MiMi Striplin launched The Tiny Tassel in September 2015, starting with a hot pink tassel earring. Today, it proudly stands as the only African American and Asian-owned women’s boutique in downtown Charleston.
Community Impact
Striplin emphasized the importance of community support in the boutique’s growth over the past decade, stating that giving back is integral to the brand’s mission. During the anniversary sale, 5% of sales will be donated to The Birthday Party Project, aiming to raise $1,000 for the cause.
Customer Support
Attendees of the anniversary celebration expressed the significance of supporting local businesses. Customer Sarah Williams-Scalise remarked, “It’s the only way to keep this city and this space special.”
Job Creation
Beyond charitable contributions, The Tiny Tassel contributes to the local economy by creating jobs. Oreoluwa Ladele, a part-time employee and medical student, shared her appreciation for working in a locally owned business, highlighting the meaningful connections it fosters.
Striplin expressed gratitude for the community’s unwavering support and looks forward to continuing to make a positive impact.
