Mount Dora Restaurant Struggles Amid Roundabout Construction
A local restaurant owner in Lake County, Florida, is expressing concern over declining business due to nearby roundabout construction. Phil Barnard, owner of the Magical Meat Boutique Pub and Restaurant, reports a staggering 42% drop in sales since construction began. This drastic reduction has led him to lay off staff and adjust operating hours in a bid to manage through tough times.
The restaurant, located on Old Highway 441 near Eudora Road, is facing significant challenges as crews work on the roundabout, which aims to improve traffic flow and safety in the area. Currently, only east-west traffic is allowed, but a complete closure of the intersection is expected in February for approximately three months.
Barnard is concerned not only about the impact on his business but also about how the construction may affect local residents and emergency response times. He hopes the county will take additional measures to alleviate difficulties faced by nearby businesses.
Lake County spokespersons have indicated that while detours are essential, they are also working on customized signage to inform potential customers that local businesses remain open. These signs are set to be installed within the week.
