Denver’s Globeville neighborhood has welcomed a brand new 80-acre community park, Carpio-Sanguinette Park, along with Heron Pond Open Space, after over a decade of planning and development. Officially inaugurated during a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the park features a nature-inspired playground, pavilion plaza, pump track, restored open space, picnic shelter, restroom, graffiti wall, and an amphitheater for events.
The project aims to transform an old stormwater basin into a regional park, enhancing the community’s environment and providing recreational opportunities. Mayor Mike Johnston emphasized the park’s role in honoring the neighborhood’s history while also looking forward to its future. The park not only serves recreational needs but also addresses environmental issues in the area.
Funding for the $44 million project came from various grants and a dedicated fund established by Denver voters to improve city parks and open spaces.
