On Monday, September 21, the Creating Space Healing Arts Community celebrated its grand “slow” opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Located at 1231 S Webster Ave. in Green Bay, this new venue is dedicated to fostering community through healing, education, and creativity.
Paula Urcavich, the founder of Creating Space, draws inspiration from her personal journey of healing. “My own hurt and healing journey has been the biggest catalyst, and my work with people as a therapist has been the motivation,” she shared. Urcavich emphasized the importance of personal growth, stating, “You can only lead people as far as you have gone yourself,” underscoring her commitment to share her learnings as she continues to heal.
Urcavich is transforming traditional therapeutic models by focusing on community healing through shared experiences in diverse creative outlets. The name “Creating Space” emerged during her work with clients, symbolizing her vision of fostering a supportive environment.
The Creating Space Healing Arts Community offers various ways for individuals to connect, including:
- Speaking engagements
- Psychoeducation and trainings
- Therapeutic workshops
- Retreats
- Group intensives
- Events featuring local artists, musicians, and wellness providers
- A seasonal book club and poetry open-mic nights
Urcavich aims to expand partnerships with local artists, organizations, and nonprofits to broaden the reach of this healing work in the community.
On a personal level, she hopes individuals will cultivate a deeper awareness of their past and find a stronger connection to themselves and their purpose. Additionally, she envisions a community where individuals feel comfortable being vulnerable and supportive of one another, fostering healing across the Green Bay area.
“What I’m addressing here is bigger than the way we traditionally understand ‘mental health,’” Urcavich stated. “It’s about unpacking the human experience and healing what’s there so that we can be free to be our true selves.”
