Space Coast Pride Back for Its 20th Year – This Time in a New Home
MELBOURNE, Fla. — The 20th anniversary of Pride Fest in Brevard County is happening on Saturday at its new venue: The Melbourne Auditorium.
Despite facing challenges over the years, organizers aim to enhance space, visibility, and impact this time. This marks the second consecutive year that the nonprofit has hosted the event without county funding.
Tina Jensen, president of Space Coast Pride, expressed the ongoing resilience of the community: “Every year there is a new set of challenges… But we are so resilient, and that’s one thing that I think is so powerful about the community is that we persevere.”
In the previous year, county commissioners voted against grant funding for the group. However, the community stepped up, raising $20,000, which is four times the intended grant amount. Jensen noted a decline in corporate sponsorships due to cuts in DEI initiatives.
She added, “We find that the people are stronger than the people in power… it always ends up being almost a blessing in disguise.”
Event Details:
- Parade: Kicks off at the Melbourne Auditorium at 11 a.m., proceeding down Hickory Street and around E. New Haven Avenue.
- Festival: Scheduled from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Melbourne Auditorium.
