Customers turn out for new Burlington Sheetz
BURLINGTON — The lot was full of vehicles and dozens of customers were on hand only one hour after the opening of the new Sheetz store in Burlington on Thursday.
Jay Turner, district manager of the store, said doors opened at 8 a.m. and there were already eight people in line when they began the day’s business with a soft opening.
“We are excited to serve the community of Burlington and it looks like they are excited to have us here,” he says. “We are happy to be a part of the community. It’s going fantastic.”
The location is the first in Lawrence County and, as Turner points out, the first in this part of the state.
“You have to go to Circleville for the closest,” he said.
The opening of the Burlington Sheetz follows that of stores across the river in West Virginia in Huntington, Barboursville, and Milton.
Turner said there were nine people working the morning shift and, altogether, the store has about 40 employees.
As part of the grand opening, the store had giveaways and raffles, as well as collected goods for the Facing Hunger food bank.
Sheetz is a Pennsylvania-based chain founded in 1961, with 855 store locations across seven states and an expansion into Indiana coming soon. It has 135 stores in Ohio.
The 6,139 square feet Burlington store features 12 fuel pumps, a drive-thru, and a wide array of prepared food.
The opening of Sheetz follows a number of new businesses in that part of Burlington, including Starbucks, Smalls Sliders, Guthrie’s, and RNR Tire Express.
