Bismarck voters will vote in November on a proposed $116.5 million bond measure aimed at improvements across 23 school district sites, including Solheim Elementary, which seeks about $11.1 million for upgrades.
Currently serving around 560 students, Solheim is over capacity, leading to logistical challenges, such as classes being held in portable classrooms and dining areas being shared with physical education. Teachers have expressed concerns that these conditions waste valuable instructional time.
The proposed updates would include adding four new classrooms, expanding the kitchen, and creating a multipurpose space to better separate dining from gym activities. Additional enhancements would focus on safety and traffic flow improvements.
The bond proposal requires a 60% approval rate and could increase property taxes by approximately $3.54 monthly for every $100,000 in home value.
