With heavy rain, wind, and flooding expected this weekend, residents are preparing alongside city agencies. Valeen Bhat, founder and CEO of Private Picassos in Clinton Hill, recalls the flooding last October that forced her to close. “I still can see the space filling up with water and the panic of it,” she said.
Now, she employs flood preparedness measures like makeshift barriers, sandbags, and flood sensors that alert her via notifications. New York City Emergency Management Commissioner Christina Farrell emphasizes the importance of planning for extreme weather.
With a nor’easter potentially bringing more challenges, she’s noted the early onset of storms and changing weather patterns, saying, “It’s really where we are. And so, we plan for everything and just adjust as needed.”
