LEGO to Commit $400 Million in Nuevo Leon, Creating 1,300 New Jobs

The LEGO Group announced a substantial investment of US$400 million to expand its manufacturing plant in Cienega de Flores, Nuevo Leon, through 2029. This expansion will introduce a new packing building and an automated warehouse, creating over 1,300 jobs at what is already the company’s largest factory globally. This move is part of a broader trend in Mexico, which saw a record US$34.97 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first half of 2026, primarily driven by reinvestment from existing multinational firms.

LEGO aims to increase its local supplier base by approximately 30%, enhancing ties with the local manufacturing ecosystem and aligning with federal initiatives under Plan Mexico to bolster domestic petrochemical and plastics supply chains. The Cienega de Flores facility has seen numerous expansions over the years, reflecting LEGO’s strategy to position production close to key markets and optimize supply chains in response to regional demand.

This investment is also expected to bolster Mexico’s toy industry and support the growth of the domestic petrochemical sector, as more than 90% of the materials used by LEGO in the country are sourced locally. The project underscores the state of Nuevo Leon’s prominence as a manufacturing hub, contributing significantly to recent job creation in the region.
