Is a dog business from Iowa poised to take over the Bar K site in Oklahoma City?

Paws and Pints Eyeing Oklahoma City Location

OKLAHOMA CITY – Speculation arose on social media Friday about an Iowa-based business potentially taking over the Bar K location in downtown Oklahoma City. News 9 investigated and spoke with one of the owners of Paws and Pints, located in Des Moines.

Kyle Casey, co-owner of Paws and Pints, confirmed that while they are interested in establishing an OKC location, plans are still in the very early stages. He stated, “We are a long way out from this dream becoming a reality,” implying that unforeseen circumstances could impact their timeline.

The announcement regarding Paws and Pints’ interest in the Bar K space near Riversport OKC was described by Casey as premature. “I woke up to the same surprise you did,” he said, expressing curiosity about how the information became public.

Paws and Pints aims to have a different business model compared to Bar K, focusing more on dog-related services such as boarding, daycare, grooming, and transportation. This approach contrasts with the offerings of Bar K and represents a strategy for long-term sustainability.

The ongoing discussion follows the recent closures of dog park bars in the OKC area, including Bar K and Solo’s Park and Pub. Despite the premature announcement, Casey has received significant positive feedback from the community, indicating excitement from past employees and sponsors.

If Paws and Pints finalizes plans, a tentative opening date has been set for 2027. Additionally, the company clarified that the digital plans circulating on social media are not accurate or up-to-date.
