$45K in State Funding Presented for Museum

Local News
ELKINS – State representatives announced more than $40,000 in funding for the Interact Children’s Museum, and toured the facility this week, as the museum still plans to open this fall.

State Senator Bill Hamilton, state Senator Robbie Morris, and Delegate Jonathan Kyle presented a check for $45,000 to Interact Children’s Museum officials. Delegate Elias Coop-Gonzalez also assisted in securing the funds for the donation but was not present for the presentation.

ICM Board President Lisa Martin expressed her gratitude, stating: “It just says this is an area museum and you guys are supporting it. We think of it as an area museum, not just an Elkins museum.”

The Interact Children’s Museum will be located in the Dann Building at the corner of Davis Avenue and Third Street, with plans to open this fall. Since 2019, the museum has operated as a mobile facility. The new location is undergoing upgrades to provide a bright, welcoming space for visitors.

Morris mentioned that the museum will serve as an attraction complementary to the new Railyard Event & Conference Center, enhancing what Elkins offers to travelers and families.

Martin revealed plans for a soft play space called “Tree Top Adventure,” which will add a unique element to the museum. The soft play area, estimated to cost around $85,000, will be installed after the museum opens, requiring a temporary closure.

The museum will feature hands-on exhibits, a village for pretend play, and a dedicated Infant Area for younger children. Schools in Randolph County have already shown interest in organizing field trips.
