Petra Academy in Bozeman, which began in 1995 with fewer than 20 students, is set for a $12.5 million expansion to accommodate its growing enrollment of around 250 students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The school’s head, Justice Kurr, noted that they currently lack sufficient classroom space, utilizing areas like the library and theater for classes.
The first phase of construction will start in two weeks and will include a 20,500-square-foot facility with nine classrooms, common spaces, and specialized rooms for art, science, and computers. Over $7.5 million has been raised for this phase, with contributions from private donors, the Petra community, and a lead gift from the Gianforte Family Foundation.
Students are actively involved in the project, writing prayers to be placed inside the walls of the new building once construction begins. This expansion is seen as vital for accommodating the increasing population in Gallatin Valley.
The new facilities are expected to enhance the school experience for students, like freshman Clara, who expressed excitement about the additional space and opportunities for growth.
