Mesa shop owner creates successful Mexican import venture.

Local Spotlight: Maria Borquez and El Rinconcito Mexican Imports

Mesa, AZ (AZFamily) —

Maria Borquez, who opened her shop at just 18 years old, has seen her business flourish into four successful storefronts in Mesa. El Rinconcito Mexican Imports, located within Mesa Market Place, showcases a variety of imported Mexican goods, making it one of the many thriving Latino-owned businesses in the area.

A Unique Offerings

Over the past two decades, Borquez has adapted her merchandise to meet sales trends, focusing on bringing in unique items that stand out from other local shops. Among the store’s favorites are agave-themed decorations, popular in both Arizona and Mexico due to the plant’s significance in tequila production. Unlike traditional cut flowers, agave is durable and can endure, appealing to customers’ tastes.

Custom Creations

In addition to running her business, Borquez is also busy fulfilling custom orders. For example, she recently designed a custom churro display, which takes about five to six weeks to create, showcasing her commitment to personalized service.

Market Hours

Mesa Market Place operates during the summer on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Starting October 1, winter hours will be in effect, with the market open Friday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
