Honda is planning to establish a new assembly plant in Ohio, focusing on hybrid vehicle production, as reported by Automotive News. This would be Honda’s eighth plant in North America, with an estimated construction cost of up to $2.5 billion. The new facility could start operations by 2030, potentially producing models like the three-row “Acura XL” and “Honda Pilot XXL.”
Despite facing challenges in the electric vehicle (EV) market, including the cancellation of three EV projects, Honda aims for a robust recovery with ambitious plans, aiming to launch 15 hybrid models globally by 2030. Currently, Honda’s North American plants are operating at about 90% capacity, necessitating expansion to meet increased demand. The new Ohio plant could alleviate some of that pressure and capture a growing segment of the hybrid market.
