Awards & Achievements in Automotive Studies
Glasgow automotive maintenance student Kesha Collins has been awarded a $500 scholarship in recognition of her academic excellence and determination to create a better future for her family.
Plaza Tire Service, in partnership with the Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College Foundation, awarded the scholarship to Collins as she pursues her studies at Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College. This award aims to help alleviate financial barriers, enabling her to continue her education and achieve her long-term career aspirations.
Collins, who maintains a remarkable 3.92 GPA, is pursuing a field traditionally dominated by males. As a mother of four and guardian to her two great-nephews, she views her education as a means to set a positive example for the children in her care.
Her interest in automotive work is personal, inspired by her late brother and her father, who was a mechanic. Collins envisions her career as a pathway to stability for her family, with hopes of owning a home and an auto repair shop one day.
“I come from a long line of people that have never really had much,” Collins shared. “I’m striving to do better for my kids. I’m hoping one day to own our home and maybe a shop.”
Beyond her ambitions, Collins is also committed to giving back to the community. She aims to provide local youth with preventative maintenance education to prepare them for vehicle ownership before they leave high school, saying, “Your vehicle plays a major role in your lifeline and future. It’s difficult to make money to provide for yourself and the people you care about if your wheels are at a standstill.”
In addition to her coursework, Collins is actively involved in the local automotive community through her membership in SOKY Street Rods.
