Duke Energy has received $50 million in federal funding from the Department of Energy to enhance its power grid. Announced in Duncan, this funding aims to boost the capacity and reliability of the grid in the Upstate and western North Carolina.
USDE Associate Deputy Secretary Alex Fitzsimmons emphasized the need for modernizing the transmission system to reduce congestion costs that impact families. Zach Vavricka, a Duke Energy spokesperson, noted that the funding will allow for improvements in transmission lines, translating into a more reliable power supply for customers.
The upgrades will specifically benefit Greenville and Spartanburg counties in the Upstate, as well as Henderson and Polk counties in western North Carolina.
