Renault Clio Achieves 62% in Green NCAP Environmental Assessment

The Renault Clio has demonstrated that well-crafted, affordable combustion cars can still make a meaningful impact in the context of Europe’s shift towards electrification. Scoring three and a half stars and achieving 62% in Green NCAP’s Sustainability Rating, the TCe 115 gasoline version showcases how sound engineering practices can enhance the environmental performance of traditional vehicles.

Its low weight of 1,186 kg and efficient turbocharged three-cylinder engine resulted in notable scores of 7.1 for energy and 6.8 for clean air performance. The Clio ranks alongside the popular Volkswagen Polo and SEAT Ibiza as one of the leading gasoline superminis.

Electric vehicles continue to dominate higher ratings, with the Kia EV4 leading at five stars and 90%, while the Mazda 6e also received high marks despite production challenges. In contrast, other combustion vehicles like the MG3 and Volkswagen Tiguan diesel fell short in ratings.

Aleksandar Damyanov, Green NCAP’s Technical Manager, emphasized the Clio’s accomplishments in demonstrating that careful engineering can lower the environmental impact of conventional cars, underscoring the potential for advancements even in affordable combustion-engine models as they still play a crucial role in today’s automotive market.
