Minimal Impact Reopens Under New Ownership in Frisco
Scents of soaps, lotions, and household cleaners fill Minimal Impact’s tiny storefront in Frisco, showcasing sustainable goods after its reopening this summer.
New owner Sha Miklas, along with her husband Mike “Sven” Miklas, took over the business in early June. The couple, long-time visitors of Summit County, has a strong connection to the area; Miklas previously worked at Arapahoe Basin from 2004 to 2025 and volunteered for the High Country Conservation Center.
Miklas has dedicated her career to protecting the environment and wanted to continue the mission of Minimal Impact’s founder, Jenny Hammock. “I’ve spent most of my career in Summit County trying to do things to help protect our community and our environment,” she stated, emphasizing her commitment to sustainability.
Product Offerings and Refillery Concept
The Miklasases have taken to producing several store products, including laundry soap and glass cleaner, in their Montezuma garage. Minimal Impact focuses on eco-friendly products, offering a range of items such as phthalate- and paraben-free shampoos, conditioners, and various body care items. The store also features a unique “refillery” concept, allowing customers to bring their own containers for refills on household cleaners at discounted prices.
Commitment to Reducing Waste
Miklas aims to help customers “de-plastic or detox” their routines, featuring items like bamboo pot scrubbers and beeswax wraps. Most products come from small businesses, many based in Colorado. Her philosophy stresses the importance of reducing overall waste instead of merely recycling.
“Not much of what we send to recycle actually gets recycled, so let’s try and be better before we have to even think about recycling something,” she said.
