Family-Owned Restaurant ‘Sol De Oro’ Honors Peruvian Culture and History
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, the spotlight falls on the individuals, cultures, and businesses that enrich the region. One such establishment is ‘Sol De Oro’ in Lake Placid, NY, the only Hispanic restaurant in the village that aims to share the vibrant Peruvian culture.
Christian Valdivia, a part-owner of ‘Sol De Oro’, explained, “We want to bring something new to the people and share the history of Peruvian food and our roots.” The family-owned restaurant is operated by the Valdivias, who were born in Peru.
“My mom makes the Peruvian dishes; only she has the special touch,” Christian said, emphasizing the authenticity of the homemade food. The restaurant’s name, ‘Sol De Oro’, pays homage to the Incas, an ancient Peruvian tribe, meaning “golden sun,” reflecting their cultural heritage.
The Valdivia family uses ingredients sourced directly from Peru, ensuring that the essence of their homeland is present in every dish. Luis Valdivia, father and co-owner, noted, “We bring our original condiments and everything from Peru.”
Christian expressed their hopes for ‘Sol De Oro’: “We aim to make our customers feel at home, especially for those far from their families.” The restaurant is a place of comfort and community, fostering joy and diversity. “It brings in everybody, spreads joy, hope, and encourages sharing of diverse experiences,” he said.
