Trump to Speak at U.N. General Assembly About Conflicts, Energy, and the Economy

President Trump to Address UN General Assembly on Wars, Energy, Economy

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump is scheduled to speak at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, focusing on international conflicts including the wars in Iran and Ukraine, as well as trade challenges and energy markets.

In his address last year, Trump boasted that the U.S. had “demolished” Iran’s nuclear capabilities through military action. As the conflict continues, he is likely to deliver a similar message, emphasizing the U.S. stance on preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Despite ongoing challenges, the administration maintains that a significant amount of oil and gas continues to flow through critical maritime routes like the Strait of Hormuz, although global supply has fallen short of pre-war levels, affecting energy markets and the global economy. U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Mike Waltz highlighted the importance of free navigation at the Assembly, pointing to key waterways like the Bab al-Mandab and the Suez Canal.

Trump will also address the ongoing war in Ukraine, with U.S. officials expressing a cautious optimism about finding a resolution to this complex conflict. Vice President JD Vance noted the challenges but remains hopeful that solutions can eventually be reached.

In addition to his speech, Trump plans to hold several meetings with world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodriguez. This meeting marks the first in-person dialogue since the U.S. military operation that ousted former Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

Trump is also set to meet with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, and will participate in a signing ceremony to expand U.S. military presence in Greenland.

Furthermore, Trump may address concerns over artificial intelligence and its implications for society, blending domestic and global priorities in his address at the U.N. General Assembly.
