Ohio leaders are advocating for the establishment of the country’s Space Academy at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, aiming to further develop America’s Space Force. Senator Bernie Moreno presented this initiative during the annual Defense & Aerospace Forum at Wright State University, with support from Congressman Mike Turner.
Moreno emphasized the importance of developing new technology and training minds capable of addressing emerging threats, referencing comments by Col. Tyson Wetzel of the National Air and Space Intelligence Center. The proposed academy would be situated between Wright State’s campus and the airbase, with the infrastructure ready to potentially begin operations by next fall, ultimately accommodating 5,000 students.
Moreno believes that the location is ideal given Ohio’s historical significance in aviation and hopes for a decision on the academy’s placement within a few months.
