John Oliver Criticizes “Upcoming Business Tycoon” David Ellison and Throws Stephen Colbert Under the Bus

John Oliver recently took a jab at “soon-to-be business daddy” David Ellison during an episode of Last Week Tonight. Known for targeting “business daddies,” Oliver commented on the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger while addressing issues with UnitedHealthcare’s denial of insurance claims. He provided a striking example of a patient who had to pay $95,000 out of pocket for cancer treatment after a denied claim.

Oliver remarked, “Having access to wealthy parents just cannot be the system to get badly needed healthcare even if it is apparently the system that lets you be in charge of HBO.” He also referenced Stephen Colbert, who wrapped up his run on The Late Show amidst the Paramount acquisition, highlighting Colbert’s humorous critique of the CBS parent company.

CBS announced that The Late Show With Stephen Colbert will conclude in May 2026, expressing pride in Colbert’s contributions to late-night television. You can watch the latest episode of Last Week Tonight in the linked video.
