Crew-13 Research Progress Enhances Health, Nutrition, and Space Science Exploration

The International Space Station (ISS) has been pivotal in advancing scientific knowledge for over 25 years, with continuous human presence contributing to research that aids in preparing for future explorations of the Moon and Mars. NASA’s SpaceX Crew-13 is set to continue this legacy by conducting vital experiments to enhance crew health, ensure reliable food production in space, and validate technologies essential for deep-space missions.

Crew-13 will leverage the microgravity environment of the ISS for groundbreaking research, including the production of human stem cell-derived tissues, which could revolutionize personalized medicine and drug screening for diseases like heart disease and Parkinson’s. They will also investigate blood flow abnormalities in microgravity and test a new inflight diagnostic device to monitor astronaut health. Additionally, the crew will focus on crop production for long-duration missions through the installation of an autonomous plant growth facility and experiments with growing crops in designated locations within the ISS.

Alongside their scientific endeavors, Crew-13 will manage routine station maintenance and participate in planned spacewalks, contributing to the ongoing operations of the orbiting laboratory.
