Chrysalis Foundation Reveals Change in Leadership

The Chrysalis Foundation has appointed Ellie Burns as its new executive director, succeeding Terry Hernandez, who is set to retire after 29 years with the organization. Burns will officially take on her role on October 19, transitioning from her position as senior director of nonprofit relations at the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines. During her tenure there, she focused on enhancing nonprofit organizations, nurturing emerging leaders, and promoting collaboration.

Founded in 1989 by Louise R. Noun, the Chrysalis Foundation supports community initiatives related to grants, scholarships, after-school programs, leadership development, and nonprofit partnerships aimed at empowering women and girls in Central Iowa. In a statement, Burns expressed her enthusiasm for continuing the foundation’s legacy and fostering opportunities for women and girls in the region. Hernandez, who joined Chrysalis in 1997 as its first staff member, will assist during the leadership transition and participate in the organization’s Inspired fundraising event on November 2.
