Utility Work on University of Kentucky Campus
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Utility work on the University of Kentucky’s campus commenced on Monday, September 21, and is expected to impact travel for drivers and pedestrians through May 2027.
Construction fencing is being set up in the Cooper Drive area, resulting in the closure of the sidewalk and bike lane along Cooper Drive from University Drive to the Garrigus Lot entrance.
UK Transportation Services is collaborating with the city of Lexington and project contractors to install water-filled jersey barriers, creating a temporary sidewalk and bike lane. Cyclists and e-scooter riders will need to dismount and walk their devices through this pathway.
Additionally, the north-most lane of Cooper Drive will be designated as a right-turn only lane before the University Drive intersection, while the center lane will continue straight toward Limestone.
Sarah Nikirk, Director of UK Transportation Services, emphasized the university’s commitment to maintaining safe access for students and staff while investing in future infrastructure growth.
On game days, UK Transportation Services advises everyone to stay alert, noting that the new sidewalk and bike lane will aid fans in reaching Kroger Field without walking on the street.
