The RTX 5060 8GB is regarded as a superior option for gaming compared to the RTX 3060 with 12GB.

The RTX 5060 8GB is considered a better choice for gaming than the RTX 3060 with 12GB.

A Reddit community debated the choice of graphics accelerator for gaming, video editing, and content creation. A user was choosing between the more affordable last-generation model GeForce RTX 3060 and the modern GeForce RTX 5060. The main debate centered on whether it’s worth paying extra for a modern chip with 8GB of memory or opting for a board based on the Ampere architecture, which offers 1.5 times more memory on a 192-bit bus at a significantly lower cost.

Participants discussed the advantages of the 12GB storage GeForce RTX 3060, noting its benefits in specialized scenarios. The additional memory buffer eliminates crashes when editing high-resolution video, allows for running modifications in projects like Skyrim or Cyberpunk 2077 with maximum-quality textures, and enables handling of larger local AI models. However, commentators emphasized that in modern games, the computing chip itself is already outdated and often fails to deliver even 30-40 FPS, making the excess VRAM impractical without lowering the base graphics settings.

Most participants recognized the GeForce RTX 5060 as a more rational purchase for gaming systems due to its 33%-45% GPU performance advantage, fast GDDR7 memory, and hardware support for new upscaling and frame generation algorithms capable of boosting frame rates to a stable 60 FPS. Users suggested compensating for the new card’s 8GB video buffer limitation by simply reducing texture quality from maximum to high. Alternatively, players also recommended considering used solutions like the GeForce RTX 3070 or saving up for the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti with 16GB of memory.
