Exploring Seattle: A Fleeting Adventure
Before my first visit to Seattle, my knowledge of the city was limited. However, I left with high expectations and an eagerness to return.
My Stay
I spent only a night and a morning in the heart of Washington’s capital, coinciding with the FIFA World Cup excitement. I stayed at Belltown Inn, perfectly situated near key attractions, emphasizing the city’s walkability.
CityPass and Sightseeing
Equipped with a CityPass, I ventured out after 4 PM to explore prominent sites like the Space Needle and the Chihuly Garden and Glass. The Space Needle, known for its breathtaking 360-degree views, was a quick stop, but the vibrant glasswork at Chihuly captivated me and made me lose track of time.
At Chihuly, I marveled at pieces like ‘Winter Brilliance’ and enjoyed a live glassblowing demonstration that added a fascinating layer to the visit. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it to the Museum of Pop Culture, but I noted it for future trips.
Pike Place Market and the Gum Wall
With still some daylight left, I wandered through Pike Place Market, famous for its diverse food options and the iconic Gum Wall. The wall, a colorful mix of chewed gum, embodies Seattle’s quirky art scene.
Game Day Eats
Before heading to Seattle Stadium, I stopped at Elysian Fields Brewery, where I tried the “Grunge Burger” and enjoyed local beers. The food, particularly the burger and nachos, was a delightful taste of Seattle.
Morning Run and Coffee
On my final morning, I joined the local coffee scene with a run to the pier. While many cafés had long lines—indicative of their quality—I finally settled on Biscuit Bitch, a quirky spot near my hotel known for its biscuit sandwiches.
Final Thoughts
Although my time in Seattle ended with disappointment as the Socceroos faced defeat, the experience was enriching. The vibrant culture and friendly atmosphere left me with a longing to return. Seattle, with its unique sights and delicious food, is a destination I look forward to revisiting.
