Morgan Freeman Named ESPN’s College GameDay Celebrity Guest Picker for LSU-Ole Miss Matchup
OXFORD, Miss. — Iconic actor and Mississippi resident Morgan Freeman will take on a new role as the celebrity guest picker for ESPN’s College GameDay. This announcement was made by sports analyst Pat McAfee on his show Thursday.
The show is set to air live from The Grove in Oxford, Mississippi, ahead of the high-profile matchup between No. 8 Ole Miss and No. 7 LSU on September 19. McAfee humorously introduced Freeman, stating, “He’s played God, he’s played Nelson Mandela, and this weekend… will be playing celebrity guest here on College GameDay.” He added that he would gladly step aside to let Freeman speak.
Despite not attending Ole Miss, Freeman expressed his excitement for the game, saying, “And I’m looking forward to this game, I promise you.”
At 89 years old, Freeman brings a rich history to the event. After serving four years in the U.S. Air Force in the 1960s, he studied at Los Angeles City College. He began his acting career on Broadway and has since starred in over 50 films, including classics like “The Shawshank Redemption,” “Bruce Almighty,” and “Driving Miss Daisy.”
