Finance Committee Evaluates UVIMCO Investment Results and Greenlights Darden Housing Fees – The Cavalier Daily

The Board of Visitors’ Finance Committee at the University of Virginia recently reviewed the strong investment performance of the University, reporting a 27% return on its $18.8 billion long-term investment pool for fiscal year 2026. The committee approved rates for new graduate student housing at the Darden School of Business, set to open in fall 2027. This housing will feature 216 apartment-style units and is priced at an average of $1,534 per bed per month.

The committee also approved updates to the University’s six-year institutional plans, focusing on student recruitment and retention, while addressing increased operating costs due to a 3.5% pay increase for faculty and staff. The University is part of a unique group of public universities retaining an ‘AAA’ credit rating, allowing it to borrow at lower interest rates.

State funding requests were made, including $10.4 million for the Virginia Military Survivors and Dependents Education Program and various initiatives to support online and traditional learning for non-traditional students. An audit of the University’s Strategic Investment Fund showed areas for improvement in project oversight but did not find major risks. The next full Board meeting is scheduled for December 2-4.
