A bikini barista shop is set to open soon in Sulphur, facing both excitement and resistance from the local community. Married couple Kloey and Hunter Machulski plan to establish their new venture, Hot Top Baristas, next month, aiming to introduce the bikini barista experience to the area.
“We’ve seen bikini barista shops in Arizona and Texas, and they seem to be thriving. We thought, why not have one here?” said Kloey. She mentioned that their families and friends support the idea, emphasizing the fun, unique atmosphere the shop aims to provide.
Located at 3312 S. Ruth Street, just outside Sulphur’s city limits, the Machulskis have signed a five-year lease and expect to open by January. However, they haven’t yet filed for the necessary permits.
The community’s reaction has been mixed; a Change.org petition against the shop has already garnered over 700 signatures. Concerns include the shop’s appropriateness due to its proximity to schools and churches, as well as potential traffic issues during peak hours.
Kloey responded, stating that the shop will be approximately 1,000 feet from the nearest church and clarified that they do not plan to serve alcohol. She also acknowledged traffic concerns and mentioned plans for a long driveway to ease entry into the drive-thru lane.
Other objections have been raised regarding potentially “highly sexualized” advertising. Kloey reassured the public that the shop will maintain a professional appearance. “There won’t be anything offensive in the windows or visible from the road.”
The baristas will wear “bikini-esque” tops paired with denim shorts, and Hunter promised that safety measures will be prioritized for their staff.
“We’ve considered all aspects to ensure this business operates properly and professionally,” he noted.
Ultimately, the Machulskis hope for community support. “We want the best for Sulphur, just as much as anyone else,” Kloey emphasized, asking locals to give their coffee shop a chance to succeed.
