Torres: RGV Strategically Poised to Gain from San Antonio’s Growing Automotive Hub

The Rio Grande Valley has a significant opportunity to leverage the expanding Texas-Mexico automotive supercluster, especially with Toyota’s manufacturing expansion in San Antonio. Jorge Torres, president of Interlink Trade Services, highlighted this potential at a McAllen Economic Development Corporation meeting.

With Toyota moving truck assembly operations from Tijuana to South Texas, Torres emphasized the importance of engaging local suppliers within a 400-mile radius to support this growth. Key examples, like the Valeo operation in McAllen, were cited as assets for attracting Tier 1, 2, and 3 automotive suppliers.

Additionally, Torres discussed the potential for cross-regional partnerships, not just in the automotive sector but also in pharmaceuticals and medical technology, suggesting that collaboration between the Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio could yield significant economic benefits in the long run.
