SBA organizes pop-up event for local businesses impacted by flooding to seek federal assistance.

Aid on the Way for Flood-Damaged Areas in Indiana

BRIGHT, Indiana (WKRC) — Much-needed aid is being mobilized for regions in Indiana severely impacted by summer flooding. Key locations like Main Street in Metamora, a Connersville campsite, and a camp in Ohio were left devastated by the flooding of the Whitewater River, with significant damage to buildings and loss of electricity forcing Jake’s River Landing to shorten its season.

Hagit Sunberg from Jake’s River Landing stated, “We’re focused on recovering the costs incurred for cleanup and on refurbishing our facilities and replacing damaged equipment.”

The Small Business Administration (SBA) is stepping in to assist as well. They hosted a pop-up event in Bright, Dearborn County, to help local businesses with loan applications. Those affected by physical damage have until October 25 to apply, while those facing only economic losses have until May 2027.

Anna Nuñez from SBA highlighted the support available: “We offer low-interest loans up to $2 million for small businesses, and homeowners can receive up to $500,000 while renters may get up to $100,000 to cover personal property and repairs.”

Interestingly, while the SBA in Indiana is offering significant loans, Ohio’s loan program has yet to be approved, limiting Hamilton and Butler counties to applying solely for economic injury loans.

Sunberg expressed concerns for Jake’s River Landing regarding repair funding: “We only know of one application with Duke Energy, but we haven’t found other grants or loans available to us.”

Nuñez announced that a new pop-up station will be available in Connersville from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, offering further assistance to those in need.
